The Borgata Goes To Stud
The Borgata has fallen in love with stud poker this November and is pushing the game with special Sunday guaranteed stud tournaments and introducing daily stud cash games which include a stud poker bad beat jackpot.
Yep, a stud bad beat. The jackpot, however, is not a progressive jackpot and will sit at $2,500 for the entire month.
Anyone playing at a stud cash game, which obviously will vary in limits and availability each day, is eligible. The minimum hand is four deuces.
Considering the difference between stud and Hold’em, where stud has no community cards, the bad beat is actually just a nice little insurance policy against some really bad luck against a well-hidden hand. Not to mention a nice boost to the players who fold.
The payout is 40 percent for the bad beat loser, 20 percent for the hand winner and 40 percent to the remaining players.
Even we can do this math. That’s a grand for the bad beat loser, $500 for the hand winner and $166 per player at an eight-person table (more if someone takes a rest room break).
Plus, on each Sunday in November, the casino will also introduce a $5,000 Guaranteed Stud ($100 Buy-In + $20 Entry) tournament at 1pm.
The bad beat will be in play until Nov. 30. The casino is introducing the seven card games this month as a new initiative.
Stud games never completely disappeared from Atlantic City and have long been a staple at the Taj Mahal serving a loyal group of stud fans.
It will be interesting to see if the game gets some traction at The Borgata

Stud is my favorite poker game, by far. I enjoy it a lot and am thrilled to see Borgata doing some promos. Obviously, the money is in Texas Hold ‘Em, but stud is still a great game.

Stud is played 8 handed therefore the other 6 players would receive $166

Stud imo will only catch on and attract Hold’em players if it is played at Pot Limit like Omaha.
Limit Stud is not exciting enough to draw players away from games like NL Hold’em and PLO.
BTW – I enjoy playing Stud.
