WSOP Final Nine
It took an 18-hour session ending early Sunday, but the World Series of Poker Main Event now has its final nine players. It will be 110 days before they play out the championship at The Rio in Las Vegas on Nov.6.
All of the remaining players are guaranteed at least $811,823 in winnings.
And, as you might expect, eight of the nine players list their occupation as poker pro. Only Cuong “Soi” Nguyen of Santa Anna Ca. is an amateur, listing his job as sales (of medical supplies).
Mike Mizrachi is probably the best known pro, but he’s also short stacked. We should also note that pro John Racener, of Port Richey Fla., won a major WSOP Circuit victory at Atlantic City’s Harrah’s Resort in 2007.
Making the November nine certainly has its advantages over being, say 10th.
Kansas auto dealer Brandon Steven broke the final table bubble when he was eliminated with an ace-king against Matthew Jarvis’ pocket queens. Steven didn’t improve his hand and Jarvis took the pot.
For 10th, Steven, 36, of Wichita, won $635,011, a difference of $177,000 from the ninth place finisher.
