GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — Richard Stockton College’s South Jersey Culture & History Center will be hosting a one-day symposium on Princeton University professor John McPhee’s groundbreaking work The Pine Barrens on Saturday, May 12, at Stockton. The symposium is free and open to the public, and takes place from 9:30am-3:30pm, with lunch served.
McPhee’s book was published in 1968 and discussed the history, ecology and geography of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, infused with his own personal memoirs. The symposium will feature several guest lecturers discussing many interesting aspects of the Pine Barrens, including what has changed since the book was written and what remains the same, and will include a question-and-answer session at the end, moderated Linda Stanton, president of the Pine Barrens’ advocacy group Lines on the Pines.
