The 21st annual Somers Point Beach Concert series will include 14 free shows on the beach in Somers Point this year, starting on June 14 with Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone. The Blues Music Award Winner (for his last album, The Lord Is Waiting and the Devil is Too, which received best album of the year in 2011) has been a favorite at the beach concert series over the years, including his two appearances at the now-defunct Mardi Gras on the Boardwalk (watch video of him performing there with Susan Cowsill) series in Atlantic City.

The summer-long concert series will also include the “Blind Genius of the Blues” Bryan Lee; the reggae funk band, The Kinsey Report; Preston Shannon, venerable star of Beale Street in Memphis who does a mean version of Prince’s “Purple Rain”; Vini Lopez, the original drummer in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, with his Caribbean/Key West Band, License to Chill; and emerging Florida blues rockers Southern Hospitality. ,

Additional headliners will be announced. Regional favorites The Billy Walton Band, Dr. Bobby Fingers, The Jeremiah Hunter Band and The Bob Campanell Band featuring Danny Eyer (July 4) will also appear in the Friday night series.

Friday, June 8th, 2012

The tri-state region’s favorite jazz guitar-organ brotherly duo, the Budesa Brothers, performed at the Top of the Trop to a packed crowd on Thursday night, June 7, in Atlantic City.

The concert was part of a weekly jazz series at the Tropicana presented by the Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation, Inc. The series, new this year, has been so successful it has been extended twice. Look for more dates soon. The remaining dates in June are below the photos from last night’s gig, featuring Rich and Ron Budesa, drummer Lucky Thompson and saxophonist Anieal Rojas as part of the quartet.

Atlantic City’s Eddie Morgan (trumpet) and Dan Fogel (organ) sat in for a couple tunes during the glorious evening on the 20th floor of the Tropicana.
