ATLANTIC CITY — A viewing party for the History Channel’s “The Epic History of Everyday Things” was held at the Foundation Room at Showboat’s House of Blues on Tuesday night, Nov. 29.

The special guest was Gary Monterosso (click link for video interview), a local teacher and beer aficionado who served as an authority for a show segment that chronicled the evolution of beer and brewing. The cable network hopes to turn “The Epic History of Everyday Things” into a regular series beyond the initial two-hour episode.

“I filmed in New York City this past June,” Monterosso tells Atlantic City Weekly. “It’s a show of ‘firsts’ — first mirror, first string, first toothpaste and, of course, they wanted me to talk a little about the first beer.”

The pilot episode aired Nov. 29 and will likely be rebroadcast a couple dozen times over the next few months, says Monterosso.

“When a person is considered for a position on television, it’s a long process,” he says. “It sometimes can take months. In this case I was actually interviewed and hired and sent to New York within 96 hours — kind of unusual.
