Thursday, January 17th, 2013

RihannaWEBRevel might not be doing as well in casino gaming revenue as hoped, but it has delivered plenty of excitement when it comes to big name entertainment.

After announcing that Alicia Keys was coming to Revel’s Ovation Hall April 13, it has been announced that Rihanna will perform at the casino on April 26. Tickets for Keys go on sale Feb. 1 and for Rihanna, January 25, both through Ticketmaster.

ATLANTIC CITY — As Atlantic City fans witnessed at Rihanna’s “Loud” tour stop at the Borgata Event Center on Sunday, July 17, the pop diva appears to be making drinking on stage a regular part of her dynamic show.

Following the Atlantic City concert, where she chugged a Corona beer on stage, (see photo gallery from the Borgata show, which also featured Cee Lo Green, here), RiRi did at least one shot of “an unknown liquid” at her performance in Uniondale, New York on July 19.

According to theboombox.com, “The red-haired songstress, dressed in a floral bandeau top and high-waisted jean shorts, brought out a glass and addressed the crowd before she took a swig of the unknown liquid. ‘This is to you,’ she shouted, while extending the cup in the air.

“Then, fittingly, Rihanna moved into ‘Cheers (Drink to That),’ a cut off her fifth studio album, Loud. She performed ‘Rude Boy’ and ‘Unfaithful,’ among others, before letting loose the night’s biggest surprise: a guest appearance by Kanye West.

“The My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy creator rhymed through his Rihanna-assisted songs ‘Run This Town’ and ‘All of the Lights,’ all while sporting a leather jacket and red plaid shirt tied around his waist.”
The report also states that Rihanna tweeted “@kanyewest thank you bro!!! U made it a night for New York to remember #poppopgetwell #watchthethrone,” following the show.

So, apparently RiRi is going to be joined by some guests this tour. Additionally she — and/or her advisors — doesn’t really care that many of her impressionable fans are teenagers under the drinking age.

Good thinking RiRi.

Rihanna Gives Lap Dance, Chugs Corona on Stage in Atlantic City.

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

acw_rihanna_3ATLANTIC CITY — World-renowned singer Rihanna brought her “Loud Tour” to the Borgata on Sunday, July 17, and several online sources say the show was amazing and a huge success.

According to a hollywoodlife.com article, the 23-year-old Barbados-born singer was “beyond INCREDIBLE” throughout the concert in the Event Center, where she sang such hit songs as “Rude Boy,” “S&M” and “California King Bed.”

The same article says that she even invited a fan onstage for a lap dance.

A couple times during her performance, Rihanna publicly drank alcohol, which isn’t unheard of at all. Just a fact.

According to globalgrind.com, the crowd cheered her on as she “grabbed a Corona bottle and guzzled a little bit.”

Cee Lo Green, notorious for his song “Forget You” and “Crazy,” a song he did as part of Gnarls Barkley, opened the show for Rihanna. See photos from the Atlantic City Borgata show here.

Atlantic City Weekly recently had an exclusive interview with Cee Lo Green about the show and his life’s trials and tribulations thus far.

Following the Sunday concert in Atlantic City, Cee Lo Green, Rihanna and Rihanna’s dancers went to the Borgata’s MIXX nightclub for an after party to celebrate the night and the current LOUD tour.

Rihanna was seen riding on Cee Lo’s shoulders and taking videos of her fans during the after party. She later accompanied MIXX DJ Ruckus at the turntables, specifically to request her favorite Bob Marley tunes.

Hump Day Report: Summertime!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Hump Day LogoRants and raves about burning topics that have caught my attention midweek, be it greedy corporate shenanigans, frustration or joy in regards to the Philly sports teams, a movie, show or DVD that has fired up my imagination, an intriguing personality, or what’s happening in the region. — Lori Hoffman, Associate Editor, Atlantic City Weekly

When summertime arrives, the living is anything but easy for the thousands of employees in Atlantic City and the surrounding region who help make our town a sizzling destination resort.

Not that any of us are complaining — this is the time of year when Atlantic City can put all the negative press on the back burner. We can table the concerns about the shrinking profits and competition from Philadelphia casinos. This is the time of year when the Jersey Shore’s inviting beach and boardwalk, in conjunction with the lure of casino gaming and the great shopping, the beach bars, and numerous summer activities, make Atlantic City the place to be.

While the off-season was filled with gloom and doom and speculation that Atlantic City was a dying market, this season’s attractions dispute that claim. Atlantic City is one of the best places to see major musical acts because the venues are much smaller and the shows are more intimate.

The AC casinos and Boardwalk Hall have booked an unbelievable collection of major stars for the summer. How good? In the coming weeks AC will host Adam Lambert, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, Diddy, Ringo Starr, the Flaming Lips, Dane Cook, Sting, Cheech & Chong, Craig Ferguson, President Bill Clinton (not playing the sax), Kathy Griffin, Santana, Simon & Garfunkel, Black Eyed Peas, Aerosmith w/Sammy Hagar, Daughtry, Kris Allen, Rihanna, Barry Manilow, Sheryl Crow, Iggy and the Stooges, MGMT, Chelsea Handler, Donna Summer, Blondie, Billy Idol and the Temptations with the Four Tops.
