Rare Amy Winehouse Video to Air Wednesday

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

MTV.com is reporting that a rare video of the late Amy Winehouse performing inside the MTV Times Square studios will be shown as a part of a special tribute program set to air on the cable station Wednesday, July 27, 6:30pm (EST).

Winehouse, the multiple-Grammy-winning British singer whose connections to vintage American soul music were more than evident in her dreadfully short and plagued music career — peaking with her 2007 Grammy winning song “Rehab” from the hit album Back to Black — was found dead in her London home on Saturday, July 23.

According to MTV:

“In celebration of the life and musical legacy of Amy Winehouse, MTV will reach into its vaults and air an intimate performance from the singer, taped in 2007, when she stood on the verge of superstardom.

“The rarely seen set — filmed in MTV’s Times Square studios as part of the 45th at Night live series — features Winehouse and her Back to Black backing band, the Dap-Kings, working their way through searing and soulful renditions of the songs that would soon become her biggest hits: “Rehab,” “Back to Black,” “Me & Mr. Jones” and “You Know I’m No Good.” A collaboration between Winehouse and rapper Mos Def on the song “Love Is a Losing Game” will also be included in the broadcast.”

Winehouse’s U.S. publicist was Egg Harbor Township’s Tracey Miller. AC Weekly has reached out to Miller, who says she and the Winehouse family are too shaken up by the sudden death to issue a comment at this time.

Britney Spears To Tour With Nicki Minaj — Not DJ Paulie D

ATLANTIC CITY — Although Britney Spears initially told ABC that she was heading on tour with Enrique Iglesias late last month, that idea was soon squashed by Enrique’s camp.

Billboard magazine soon reported: “Iglesias is a headlining artist and has been for some time, and would carry his own fully-themed production on the tour. The language in the carefully worded press release — which was withdrawn from certain outlets shortly after it was sent [stated] the pair would ‘tour together’ but stopped short of calling it a ‘co-headlining’ tour, the phrase commonly used for such superstar pairings as Billy Joel and Elton John, for example.”

Anyhoo, Spears is going on the road, and MTV reports that pop sensation Nicki Minaj, who recently appeared in Atlantic City, will be joining her. (And not a certain DJ from MTV’s show Jersey Shore. DJ Paulie D? On par with even Britney and Enrique and Nicki? C’mon.)

Although Spears’ North American summer tour will not bring her to Atlantic City — as of now — she will perform in nearby cities, according to her schedule listed on the Pollstar site.

They’re Baaack! ‘Jersey Shore’ Returns to MTV

JWOWW and blogger Perez Hilton in Atlantic City over Halloween weekend 2010 for the OUT in AC festivities.

JWOWW and blogger Perez Hilton in Atlantic City over Halloween weekend 2010 for the OUT in AC festivities.

Although Atlantic City for the most part wants no part of this MTV show, which recently kicked off its third season after the first season cast became superstars over the past year or so with all types of Joisey slang introduced or re-introduced to a national audience (how?).

See video of the cast in Atlantic City here.

But, for those who like the show, below are some juicy bits regarding the third season, courtesy of thestir.com. The third and latest season of the popular MTV show, kicked off Jan. 6. But first, thestir.com offers the following list of things to look out for this season:

• The whole gang — save Angelina — is back in Jersey. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, Jenni “JWoww” Farley, Paul “Pauly D” Delvecchio, Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, and Vinny Guadagnino have all come back to the beach.

• There’s a new smurf in town. Snooki has brought along a pal: Deena Nicole Cortese, a 23-year-old former waitress from New Egypt, New Jersey. So what’s the new girl like? Sammi sums up Deena this way: “She’s four feet tall, a short little meatball … exactly like Snooki.”
Snooki gets drunk. A lot. In the trailer she’s shown falling off a bike, stumbling in the sand, hiding in a plant, and getting arrested. Oh — and she searches vainly for the beach. While standing on the boardwalk. Right next to that big pile of sand next to the water.

• New housemate Deena takes it all off in the first 24 hours. In her words: “It took a day for somebody to see my goods.”

• The word “bitch” is tossed around. A lot. The most creative usage of the “B” word? Snooki labels one of the girls as an “f**ing slutty-assed bitch.”

• Get ready for some tension. As Vinny puts it: “The dynamic has definitely changed. It’s not one big happy family anymore.”

OK, now here are some juicy bits to look forward to this season, from thestir following this week’s first episode:

The Situation may start his down slide. When you make a career out of being a cheesy sleazebag that people secretly mock and you suddenly actually become famous and rich (don’t even get me started) based on that shtick, it might go to your head. And it seems it has. Watch for a major downplay of who he used to be and an aloof  ‘I’m too cool for this’ attitude to emerge.”

JWoww gets dumped, it seems. And so does Ron. This season looks like it will have less laughs and more tears. I really hope it doesn’t turn into the Jersey Shore meets The Notebook, though because honestly, I’m not sure I can take seeing JWoww too distraught. I much prefer my Jersey Shore with pasties, public lewdness, and laughter.”

Sam goes home.

‘Jersey Shore’ Season 3 Sneak Peek

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Here’s a look at MTV’s Jersey Shore, season three, which was actually filmed at the Jersey Shore this time — Namely Seaside Heights, which is North of A.C. but whatever.

After a sluggish season in Miami, it’s good to see the kids back and taking swings at each other in New Jersey. There’s also some scenes of Snooki’s run in with the law, a hilarious clip of her looking for the beach … from the Boardwalk …, and some tension between Sammi Sweetheart and JWoww that ends oh so typically.

The show premieres Jan. 6, which really can’t get here fast enough.

‘Jersey Shore’ cast at Casbah

Cast members from MTV’s Jersey Shore reality TV series will be stepping into the South Jersey scene when they visit the Taj Mahal’s Casbah on Saturday, Feb. 13 (rescheduled from Saturday, Jan. 16). Cast members Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and DJ Pauly D will be at the Casbah.

Jersey Shore debuted on MTV on Dec. 6 and was an immediate sensation as it put eight Italian-American 20-somethings into a summer house in Seaside Heights, a popular summer hot spot in North Jersey. Viewers get a glimpse of their lives and over the top personalities as the characters learn to live together, sharing meals, love, nightlife and learning to co-habitate. Drama unfolds with each episode and it has quickly become one of MTV’s most popular reality series.

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, 27, is from Staten Island, NY. He is known for his antics with the ladies and his rock-hard six pack abs. The way he sees it, he has the situation under control.
Pauly D, 28, hails from Johnston, RI and is Rhode Island’s most well-known DJ. He keeps a tanning bed in his house and orders gel by the case and does his hair twice a day — once in the morning and once before hitting the town.
