ATLANTIC CITY — On Thursday morning, Aug. 23, celebrity chef Marc Forgione helped raise awareness about the serious issue of hunger by packing bags of food for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and distributing them to local families in need.
The event took place on the Boardwalk in front of Revel, where Forgione’s restaurant American Cut is located, and involved volunteers from the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City. Beneficiaries of the event were Sister Jean Webster’s Kitchen, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, and Feeding America — an organization that provides more than 37 million low-income individuals and families with hunger relief through about 200 food banks and 61,000 support agencies nationwide. In Atlantic County alone, 15.6 percent of the population faces hunger, which is about 42,000 people. Forgione, the 2010 winner of the Food Network’s competition show the Next Iron Chef, is a member of the Feeding America Entertainment Council.
Food and non-perishable products for the events were donated by Restaurant Marc Forgione, Chef’s Warehouse, Sysco, Baldor, Cintas and I Halper.
