OK. By now, anybody who cares knows that Lady Gaga just kicked off her 2011 Monster’s Ball Tour in Atlantic City, at Boardwalk Hall, this past Saturday, Feb. 19.

It was Lady G’s second appearance in as many years in Atlantic City (but her third scheduled gig), and the Madonna of the 21st Century told the crowd Saturday night that she’d be back next year in 2012.

Furthermore, it’s been streaming on CNN and other media outlets for days now that Lady Gaga’s new single just hit No. 1 in about 20 countries, including the United States.

“I was always an entertainer. I was a ham as a little girl and I’m a ham today,” says Lady Gaga, who made a name for herself on the Lower East Side club scene with the infectious dance-pop party song “Beautiful Dirty Rich.” “I always loved rock and pop and theater. When I discovered Queen and David Bowie is when it really came together for me and I realized I could do all three,” says Gaga, who created her name from Queen’s song “Radio Gaga” and who cites rock star girlfriends Peggy Bundy, and Donatella Versace as her fashion icons. “I look at those artists as icons in art. It’s not just about the music. It’s about the performance, the attitude, the look; it’s everything. And, that is where I live as an artist and that is what I want to accomplish. My goal as an artist is to funnel a pop record to a world in a very interesting way.”

About the first leg of The Monster Ball Tour, Gaga described it as “the first-ever pop-electro opera.”

Hump Day Report: Summertime!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Hump Day LogoRants and raves about burning topics that have caught my attention midweek, be it greedy corporate shenanigans, frustration or joy in regards to the Philly sports teams, a movie, show or DVD that has fired up my imagination, an intriguing personality, or what’s happening in the region. — Lori Hoffman, Associate Editor, Atlantic City Weekly

When summertime arrives, the living is anything but easy for the thousands of employees in Atlantic City and the surrounding region who help make our town a sizzling destination resort.

Not that any of us are complaining — this is the time of year when Atlantic City can put all the negative press on the back burner. We can table the concerns about the shrinking profits and competition from Philadelphia casinos. This is the time of year when the Jersey Shore’s inviting beach and boardwalk, in conjunction with the lure of casino gaming and the great shopping, the beach bars, and numerous summer activities, make Atlantic City the place to be.

While the off-season was filled with gloom and doom and speculation that Atlantic City was a dying market, this season’s attractions dispute that claim. Atlantic City is one of the best places to see major musical acts because the venues are much smaller and the shows are more intimate.

The AC casinos and Boardwalk Hall have booked an unbelievable collection of major stars for the summer. How good? In the coming weeks AC will host Adam Lambert, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, Diddy, Ringo Starr, the Flaming Lips, Dane Cook, Sting, Cheech & Chong, Craig Ferguson, President Bill Clinton (not playing the sax), Kathy Griffin, Santana, Simon & Garfunkel, Black Eyed Peas, Aerosmith w/Sammy Hagar, Daughtry, Kris Allen, Rihanna, Barry Manilow, Sheryl Crow, Iggy and the Stooges, MGMT, Chelsea Handler, Donna Summer, Blondie, Billy Idol and the Temptations with the Four Tops. Lady Gaga Update

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Lady-GWebTrying to keep up with all the concert updates is making me dizzy. Turns out the Lady Gaga concert, originally scheduled in January at Borgata, has now been shifted to Boardwalk Hall on July 4, which of course will allow more fans to see the show. Presales for Virgin Mobile presents The Monster Ball Tour Starring Lady Gaga begin tomorrow (Tues. March 23) according to the Ticketmaster site. Tickets are $54.50, $93.50 and $192.50.

Since the venue was changed, it is not clear if those fans holding tickets for the Borgata show will get an opportunity to purchase tickets first due to the cancellation. It is a different company; the Borgata does not sell their tickets through Ticketmaster while Boardwall Hall does use Ticketmaster. The debate is going on at this Web site.
