As the Atlantic City area still cleans up and deals with the aftermath of October’s Hurricane Sandy, many have stepped up to the plate to help the victims of the natural disaster.

First, President Obama, less than a week before the 2012 presidential election, came to the area with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Since then there have been benefit concerts, including the RE-DO AC concert at Le Grand Fromage,  Neil Young and Crazy Horse at Borgata, Caesars Entertainment’s Operation Hat Trick (which raised $500,000) and upcoming Savor for Sandy and several other generous donations and offers of assistance.

On Wednesday morning, Dec. 12, Lexus Of Atlantic City presented a $5,000 check to the American Red Cross serving Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties. Pictured above are Scott T. Harvey, of Lexus Atlantic City, and the local American Red Cross chapter’s executive director Carol Cohen.

People, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Didn’t Get Destroyed by Sandy

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

feet-boardwalkIn Atlantic City and the surrounding areas, it’s well known that the Atlantic City Boardwalk was NOT destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

However, as the Atlantic City Alliance has found out, according to one North Jersey blog:

“A whopping 41 percent of the American public believes the Atlantic City Boardwalk is destroyed, when actually it was just a useless, dilapidated section of planks near the inlet that washed away.”

How is this possible?

According to the blog post, “The Atlantic City Alliance says it will fight back, including with a full-page ad in the New York Times on Wednesday [Nov. 28] – the group’s first ad with a national reach.”

The ACA also has a new TV spot that will air beginning this week in the New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Baltimore regions.

“It’s a shame that sloppy and lazy reporting by major outlets created this sort of problem,” the blog post goes on.

What’s even more of a shame is that some people — some of them reporters and editors — either don’t listen, don’t want to hear the truth or a combination of both.

This video alone, filmed five days after Sandy, shows the Atlantic City Boardwalk intact.

So does this one, a “Board-Walk,” attended by hundreds to show the world the historic Boardwalk was not destroyed by Sandy.

So does the pic below:

Le Grand Fromage hosted three days of music, featuring about 100 bands, to raise funds for two local groups hard-hit by Hurricane Sandy.

According to the festival’s organizer, Jerry Ryan, the three-day festival (Nov. 16-18) raised about $2,200 from the door. (There was a $10 admission fee.)

Musicians from as far away as Boston and Washington D.C. came together  for the “Re-Do AC” music benefit, which will assist the Brigantine Marine Mammal Stranding Center (Atlantic County) and the Ocean City Repertory Theatre (Cape May County) — each of which was severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy.Atlantic County

“The money is going to help them rebuild,” says Ryan. “They both had a lot of damage. Brigantine is my hometown so I wanted to get involved and help the Stranding Center there.”

Read more about the festival here. And, lastly, kudos to Jerry Ryan for putting this benefit together so quickly, Le Grand Fromage for hosting all three days and to the many artists who performed.

Partyin’ HQ Style

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — As promised, Las Vegas-based Angel Management Group (AMG) has delivered a unique nightclub experience to the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

On a recent Saturday night in October, Revel, Atlantic City’s newest resort, was busy and AMG’s HQ nightclub glimmered with LED lights through the cold and cloudy skies.

Soon after midnight, as some of Revel’s many restaurants emptied out, some resort guests were just now heading out for the night, ready to hit HQ.

Lines of HQ-hopefuls formed to get into the club on the outskirts of the casino, keeping the security gatekeepers at the multilevel club’s many entry points (inside and out) on their toes through the wee hours of the morning.

Inside HQ, the bars were crowded, the people everywhere, and the music was loud.

Thumping on and on, with DJ Ryan Mariciano in the elevated booth above the dance floor, surrounded by private booths where champagne flowed, the tripped-out beats put a trance on the revelers — most clutching and waiving blinking glow sticks handed out by a guy dressed as a psychedelic superhero.

Outside the club on the veranda sky walk, where smokers and fresh-air seekers hang, the music was still blasting.

October DJ line-up at Revel’s HQ is as follows:

Fri. Oct. 19: Chromeo

Sat. Oct. 20: Rob Guson

Sun. Oct. 21: Rony Seikaly

Fri. Oct. 26: EC Twins

Sat. Oct. 27: Sultan & Ned Shepard

Sun. Oct. 28: Laidback Luke

Wed. Oct. 31 (Halloween): Dada Life

Here are some more pics from HQ the night before (Oct. 5) when DJ Cedric Gervais had the crowd jumping:

76ers Dance Team at Mia

Although the Sixers lost in this past weekend’s Boardwalk Classic, nearly 7,000 basketball fans came out to check out the Brooklyn Nets preseason debut at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City (see photos here).

The city has more sports on the horizon, with the Albany Devils, the New Jersey Devils’ minor league hockey team, set to play four games at the Hall starting in November and January / February 2013.

Some are wondering if the New Jersey hockey team affiliate would be better off in the Garden State —  Atlantic City sounds good, right? — than in our neighbor to the north.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers dance team posed for this pic while at Mia at Caesars over the basketball weekend in A.C.

Will Madonna Do Istanbul Strip Show in Atlantic City?

Monday, June 11th, 2012

As you can hear on this captured video from Madonna’s concert in Istanbul over the weekend, the crowd went nuts after the 53-year-old singer flashed a nipple during a sexually charged version of “Human Nature.” (See video, for mature audiences only, below.)

Will Madge keep the peep show going throughout her world tour, which stops in Atlantic City in September?

What do you think?

Budesa Brothers at Top of The Trop

Friday, June 8th, 2012

The tri-state region’s favorite jazz guitar-organ brotherly duo, the Budesa Brothers, performed at the Top of the Trop to a packed crowd on Thursday night, June 7, in Atlantic City.

The concert was part of a weekly jazz series at the Tropicana presented by the Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation, Inc. The series, new this year, has been so successful it has been extended twice. Look for more dates soon. The remaining dates in June are below the photos from last night’s gig, featuring Rich and Ron Budesa, drummer Lucky Thompson and saxophonist Anieal Rojas as part of the quartet.

Atlantic City’s Eddie Morgan (trumpet) and Dan Fogel (organ) sat in for a couple tunes during the glorious evening on the 20th floor of the Tropicana.
