Deckstock Revisits the ‘Summer of Love’
ATLANTIC CITY — In the summer of 2009, musician, event producer and former pro football player Gary Weinlein created a multi-band tribute show to honor the 40th anniversary of probably the best-known music festival in world history, Woodstock.
Dubbed the Woodstock Era Experience, Weinlein, who also performs the part of Ian Anderson in a Jethro Tull tribute, says on the show’s Web site (woodstockeraexperience.com), “The experience is not just for the memory of the songs, it is to recreate the actual visual and feel of what a concert was like to see and hear from that era.”
On Saturday, Aug. 10, the Golden Nugget will host its own personalized version of Weinlein’s production called Deckstock, which will recreate the sounds of some of the most famous rock-and-roll legends of the Woodstock era, among them the Mamas and the Papas, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Dusty Springfield, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, The Doors, Simon and Garfunkel and others. Deckstock will take place at The Deck at Golden Nugget from 2-10pm Saturday.
As hippie peace activist Wavy Gravy said during Woodstock in 1969, “We must be in heaven, man!”
