Atlantic City’s 40/40 Club Closed
Atlantic City’s 40/40 Club, the second luxury sports bar of that name designed and built by hip-hop artist/entrepreneur Jay-Z, has closed its doors forever, it was recently reported.
Initial reports had the club being severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy in October and opting not to renew its lease. Subsequent reports had Tanger Properties Limited Partnership, which leases the property to the club owners, suing ownership for back rent and other expenses totaling six figures.
The Atlantic City 40/40 opened to much fanfare in October 2005. The first 40/40 Club is still operational on west 25th Street in Manhattan, New York City, and recently underwent a $10 million upgrade. A third 40/40 — which takes its name from the rare baseball feat of hitting at least 40 home runs and stealing 40 bases in one season — opened at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in September 2012.
