Workers at Groveland Plaza in Somers Point put boards over the windows at Groveland Cleaners on the corner of Route 9 and Groveland Avenue in Somers Point just before noon on Sunday, Oct. 28. Other businesses in the area experienced heavy traffic as folks made final preparations for Sandy, due to reach the Garden State later today.

Atlantic County has issued the following updates as of this morning. Additionally, the Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City (Route 40) has re-opened while Route 30 in Absecon remains closed.

From the county:

Galloway Township has confirmed that its municipal complex will be closed to the public on Monday, October 29. Only essential personnel are to report to duty.
Also – a rumor is circulating that Atlantic City Electric will be turning off all power to the barrier islands as of 4 PM today.
THIS IS NOT TRUE. Atlantic City Electric has confirmed this is a FALSE rumor.
ACUA will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, October 29 th & 30 th.
Solid Waste & Recycling Collections & Disposal
The ACUA trash, recycling and yard waste collection services WILL NOT take place on Monday or Tuesday (October 29 th & 30 th).
At this time, there are no plans to make up these collections. Materials will be collected on the next regularly scheduled collection day.
Residents and commercial customers are strongly advised to secure all trash and recycling containers. Attempts should be made to cover all receptacles. Keeping rain out of the containers will keep disposal costs lower once the materials are collected.
The ACUA Scalehouse and Transfer Station will be closed on Monday and Tuesday (October 29 th & 30 th). No waste or recycling will be accepted at the ACUA’s Delilah Road Landfill at least until Wednesday, October 31st.
Wastewater
ACUA Wastewater Operations will be closed and will not be providing service after 3 pm on Sunday, October 28 th. The ACUA will be operating the Wastewater Facility and the Wastewater Collection Systems, but ACUA will not be accepting sludge, septage or any other materials at the facility after that time.
