Help Students in Need Obtain School Supplies through Operation Backpack
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Parents and teachers know that starting the year off with the right school supplies is important to all kids, but we also know that some families just cannot afford to purchase everything they need.
That’s why Family Service Association, Spencer’s Gifts, The Bank, and Asbury United Methodist Church are sponsoring Operation Backpack, a drive to collect backpacks and school supplies for students in need.
The program encourages donations to Operation Backpack bins located throughout local neighborhoods from now to the deadline date of Aug. 20.
“All school supplies are needed, especially backpacks, notebook paper, pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, spiral notebooks and rulers,” says Debbie Renaud, vice president for The Bank, in a recent media release.
“Nearly 14,000 children live in poverty in Atlantic County and many of their parents cannot afford the basic supplies for school,” adds Cindy Herdman Ivins, president/CEO of Family Service Association.
Volunteers from Family Service Association will assist in sorting and distributing supplies between Aug. 21-23. To sign up, e-mail nick.white@fsasj.org, or for more information about Family Service Association or to locate drop-off locations, call (609) 569-0239 or 569-1160 or go here.
