Tropicana Pays Tribute to Dennis Gomes Monday
Dennis Gomes’ fingerprints are all over the Atlantic City casino industry. The late owner of Resorts also spent time as an executive at Trump Taj Mahal and at the Tropicana.
It is his association with the latter that will be honored this Monday, June 18, 11am, when Tropicana dedicates The Quarter Casino and Resort in memory of Dennis Gomes. The ceremony takes place at the Crystal Court on the casino level near Tango’s.
Gomes is credited with the conception, planning and implementation of The Quarter, a Havana themed retail, dining and entertainment complex that was the first attraction of its kind to open in Atlantic City. Mr. Gomes’ wife and family will be in attendance as Tropicana executives unveil a special memorial plaque in his honor.
The first time I met Gomes was at the opening of the IMAX Theater at the Tropicana where I was impressed both by his enthusiasm and his down-to-earth demeanor. He just didn’t act the way one expects a big shot casino executive to act. That was his charm and why his passing was such a shock and a loss for the region.
