Dead Revival Destined for Mays Landing

gd frost-1987-88-webgallerMAYS LANDING, N.J. — Jam-band fans surely have their sights set on the June 15-17 Phish Phest at Bader Field, but for a sampling of the group that set the genre standard, head to Hamilton Commons in Mays Landing for the second annual “Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies” on Thursday, April 19, starting 7pm.

The one-night-only event features a previously unreleased full-concert video of an iconic show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin on July 18, 1989. The two-and-a-half hour show is complemented by a previously unreleased live track from the band’s spring 1990 tour with rarely seen photos.

The Dead’s summer of ’89 Alpine Valley gigs have been heralded by “Deadheads” as personifying the band’s peak, latter-day form, including the heyday of keyboardist Brent Mydland (who tragically passed away about one year later). The following night’s Alpine Valley show (July 19) was also recorded and made into the highly regarded Downhill From Here video released in 1997.

Tickets are available now at the theater box office (4215 Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing), or call (609) 677-9083 or go here.

The July 18, 1989 Alpine Valley set list includes:

Touch of Gray, Jack Straw, Jack A Roe, Minglewood Blues, Friend of the Devil, Memphis Blues, Bird Song, Promised Land, Sugar Magnolia, Scarlet Begonias, Women Are Smarter, Eyes of the World, Drums-Space, China Doll, Dear Mr. Fantasy, Hey Jude Reprise, Throwing Stones, Sunshine Daydream. (Encore) The Mighty Quinn.
