Moviejunkie Returns From the Disabled List

I love animal movies, so 'Big Miracle' is on my list of movies to see this weekend.
If you were wondering where the movie reviews at Atlantic City Weekly went in January, the answer is to the disabled list. I had a total knee replacement surgery on Jan. 3 and have spent the last month resting and in rehab.
I did a couple of blogs from home because I was not about to miss weighing in on the Academy Award nominations with my annual Oscar Tout Sheet, as well as commenting on the SAG awards and what they told us about the likely Oscar selections.
If you are considering a knee replacement — and it has become a common surgery these days — I’m here to tell you it is a very painful recovery. After going through the hellish first week post-surgery, I admired my 83-year-old mother Barbara, all the more since she had this same surgery back in August. And she had it a lot tougher, since she had more swelling and her calf was black and blue for weeks.
My recovery has been a cakewalk in comparison and it was still the toughest surgery I’ve ever been through, and I’ve had a complex spinal neck surgery and a hysterectomy with early stage cancer.
Do I regret doing it? No. I’ve accepted that I will have several more months of discomfort and pain before I will even begin to turn the corner and start feeling like myself again. I did this so I could walk without pain and ride a bike again. I relish the moment when these two wishes come true.
In the meantime I’m back going to the movies and my reviews will return to the pages of Atlantic City Weekly for the next issue on Feb. 9.
Usually, I’m the one being asked about what’s good at the movies, but if you have any suggestions about which movies are worth seeing, please leave a comment. Also if you’ve had a knee replacement, let me know how happy you are with the results.
