Although the Miss America Pageant ran away to the wicked west — aka Las Vegas — years ago, the town that invented the pageant in 1921, Atlantic City, loves it when she comes home for a visit.

Miss America 2011, Teresa Scanlan, made her first official visit to the Atlantic City area this week, an annual tradition once the new Miss America is crowned.  Miss America visits the national office in Linwood and meets with the national staff who have the opportunity to discuss the plans for her national media tour for the upcoming year.

While visiting Atlantic City and the famed Boardwalk, Scanlan also begins her speaking tour.  On Thursday, she will travel to Philadelphia to visit the children at Shriner’s Hospital then on Friday, will meet with students from the Holy Family Regional School in Ventnor to speak about the importance of education. She will also share her personal experience with the students about making the right choices in life.

As part of her visit, Miss America dropped by the media night for Marc Antonelli’s show at the Tropicana.
