Rave Review For ‘Boardwalk Empire’
While reading Daily Variety up at the Toronto International Film Festival, I noticed a front page review of Boardwalk Empire titled “Prohibitive Favorite.” The show biz bible, via writer Brian Lowry, expects Empire to be HBO’s next critical hit. To quote Variety, “There’s so much to savor about Boardwalk Empire, it’s hard to know where to begin. One can luxuriate in the atmosphere or admire the scintillating cast … As for the story, it has been a while since a sweeping , epic backdrop has been put to better use … the mantle of cable’s next great period piece belongs to HBO.”
Adding that the series “Grows richer, deeper and more absorbing with each episode previewed,” the Variety rave says that, “This is quite simply, television at its finest,” and concludes with, “For those wondering when the channel would deliver another franchise to definitively put it on top of the world, Ma, the wait is over. Go directly to Boardwalk.”
