Nelson Johnson, local judge and author of Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City, which is currently being made into an HBO series to debut later this year, appeared in Margate over the weekend to sign copies of his book. Although he has evaded several requested for an interview with Atlantic City Weekly (why? we wonder … Hey Mr. Johsnon, why not return our calls??), Johnson spoke to a crowd gathered at the Margate Community Church on Sunday, March 28, spoke about the book, which has recently been reissued.
Johnson is also working on a new book about the North side of Atlantic City.
The HBO series, Boardwalk Empire, is being directed by filmmaker Martin Scorsese and will include a slew of top-notch actors.
The scenes, however, were not shot locally and names of the real characters (literally and figuratively) in the book have been changed. (Photo by Nick Valinote)
