The Humane Society of Ocean City

An array of dogs, cats and miscellaneous creatures accompanied by their best friends, will obediently compete for ribbons on Saturday, April 3, starting 11am at Carey Stadium, 6th Street off the boardwalk in Ocean City. The annual event usually draws about 100 entrants and kicks off an array of Ocean City Easter Weekend activities.
Woofin’ Paws has always been a fundraiser for the Ocean City Humane Society. It takes on added significance this year as the Society has been working to capacity for months due to the recession. The facility is completely filled with dogs and cats from owners who can no longer afford to care for them.
A $5 entry fee for individual pets, or a $10 fee for multiple entries, supports the Society. Spectators are admitted free but donations to the Society are most welcome and encouraged. This year it is more important than ever for spectators to make on optional contribution.
A donation jar will be placed at the registration table for voluntary contributions. Donations may also be made by sending a check to the Humane Society of Ocean City, P.O. Box 1254, Ocean City, NJ 08226.
The Humane Society of Ocean City is a no-kill shelter named one of the best for its size in the country. It is located at 1 Shelter Rd. off Tennessee and Bay avenues. An array of friendly pets are available for adoption. Call 609-399-2018.
The contest is open to any pet that will not eat another pet. That includes dogs, cats, ferrets, hamsters, turtles, etc. There is a $5 entry fee and a $10 fee for multiple entries, no limit. So bring all of your pets. Proceeds benefit the Ocean City Humane Society, a no-kill, award winning facility. In the event of inclement weather, event will be held in the adjacent Sports and Civic Center. There is no fee to watch the proceedings.
And yes, there will be entertainment. Elvis performer, Ted Prior, will sing “You Ain’t Nothin’ But a Hound Dog, Easter Bonnet and other songs appropriate to the various categories. Singer Margie Dailey will also perform as the late country singer, Patsy Kline. Categories include Best Dressed Dog, Cat, Miscellaneous, Best Bathing Suit, Best Face Licker, Most Patriotic, Best Tail Wagger, and Pet Owner Look-Alike.
