Sofia Wine Tasting Event Benefits Atlantic County Animal Shelter
The Atlantic County Animal Shelter was the recipient of many special items from the proceeds of a recent wine tasting event held at Sofia in Margate.
Sofia Papastamelos, Angela Diamantis and Atlantic County Freeholder Alisa Cooper sponsored the elaborate wine tasting event with proceeds designated to benefit the shelter. The shelter is funded by Atlantic County Government and provides excellent care and housing for the cats and dogs, however this event was sponsored to purchase additional items that the shelter needed.
After the very successful event, Papastamelos, Diamantis and Cooper met with Kathy Kelsey, the director of the shelter, and determined what items were needed. Among the items were six gas-powered heaters to be used for emergency purposes, “nuzzle bed” for expectant cats, and rawhide treats. “The heaters are a welcome addition since having these heaters as a backup will now keep the shelter warm and eliminate the need to relocate all of the animals in case of a power outage, disaster or other emergency,” said Kelsey in a media release. “The nuzzle beds are designed especially for expectant cats and provide additional comfort for nursing cats and their kittens. The rawhide treats are for all the dogs and will keep them happy while providing mental stimulation.”
“As animal lovers we were so happy that we could host a benefit for the Atlantic County Animal Shelter, enabling the shelter to purchase some very special items,” said Papastamelos. “We had a wonderful turnout and we know that everyone had a most enjoyable evening. It was positive and rewarding — for those who attended the event and especially, for the dogs and cats at the shelter.”
