Amazing: Atlantic City Clubs That Used to Be

Our good friend Ralph Hunter of the African-American Heritage Museum passed out a stunning sheet of paper during last night’s terrific opening reception for the exhibit ‘A Pictorial of Club Harlem and the Way We Were’ at the Atlantic City Free Public Library through the month.

Here it is below (I’m working on a higher resolution version). What does it show? That there used to be more than 100 “cafes and night clubs” in Atlantic City that were either patronized, owned or operated by the local African-American community . Today, as Hunter told a crowd at last night’s reception, there are none. Check out the exhibit for this extraordinary and historically interesting list.

A list of more than a 100 mostly black cafes and nightcliubs that used to exist in Atlantic city. Today there are zero, according to Hunter.
