The Downbeach Film Festival has announced that New Jersey-bred filmmaker Kevin Smith will be honored August 9 at a retrospective during the inaugural DBFF taking place Aug. 8–10. Smith will speak about his career and hold a Q&A with the audience. It won’t be the first time he has done a Q&A in our area. He appeared at Stockton College in April of 2006 for “An Evening With Kevin Smith.” I interviewed him for that appearance. You can check it out here.
The festival kicks off August 8 with films shown at the Margate Performing Arts Center. Also scheduled to appear at the festival is filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. He will be bringing the film Explicit Ills, which he produced, starring Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) and Lou Taylor Pucci.
