Hump Day Report: AC is Nashville North This Week
Rants and raves about burning topics that have caught my attention midweek, be it greedy corporate shenanigans, frustration or joy in regards to the Philly sports teams, a movie, show or DVD that has fired up my imagination, an intriguing personality, or what’s happening in the region. — Lori Hoffman, Associate Editor, Atlantic City Weekly.
This week Atlantic City becomes Nashville north with a free Blake Shelton concert on the beach Thursday, July 31, and the free Lady Antebellum beach concert on Sunday, Aug. 3. Toss in Danielle Bradbery at Resorts, the young country singer who was coached by Shelton into winning season four of The Voice, and you have an impressive country line-up.
This should at least match — or maybe surpass — the insanity created when Kenny Chesney had a free beach concert in Wildwood in June of 2012. The free concerts are just a part of the sensational line-up of artists appearing in town this summer. To mention a few, we’ve had Lady Gaga, Queen with Adam Lambert already and KISS with Def Leppard this Saturday. Coming up are Donny & Marie, Andrew Dice Clay, Jennifer Nettles, Howie Mandel, Rod Stewart, Kevin Hart & Friends, Alan Jackson, Ne-Yo, Chris Tucker, ZZ Top w/Jeff Beck, Aerosmith w/Slash, Colbie Caillat, Scott Weiland, Steely Dan and Willie Nelson.
The AC haters love to bitch about the town and yes, the gaming side continues to struggle. However, with all the concerts, events like this past weekend’s Atlantic City Food & Wine Festival, the amazing restaurants in general, the vibrant nightclub scene and AC’s original allure — the beach and boardwalk — our town is still a fantastic resort.
